Experimental evaluation of a 35 kVA downdraft gasifier

Ashok Jayawant Rao KECHE, Gaddale AMBA PRASAD RAO

Frontiers in Energy 2013, Volume 7, Issue 3,   Pages 300-306 doi: 10.1007/s11708-013-0247-9

Abstract: Energy conversion systems based on biomass are particularly interesting because biomass utilization effectively closes the carbon cycle besides achieving self-sustainability. Biomass is particularly useful for highly populated and agriculture dependent economic nations like China and India. A compact and cost effective downdraft gasification system was developed. The present paper describes an experimental investigation on a biomass based gasifier engine system with a capacity of 35 kVA for power generation application. The problem of cooling and cleaning the hot and dirty gas from the gasifier has been satisfactorily solved by the effective cooling and filtration system. The gasifier developed is observed to be operation friendly. The quality of gas was evaluated in terms of its composition, conversion efficiency and total particulate matter. The maximum output of the power plant was obtained at the combustion zone temperature of 850oC. The experimental investigations showed that the percentage reduction in total particulate matter is 89.32%. The conversion efficiency of the biomass gasifier is found to be dependent on the operation conditions and fuel properties of the gasifier. The optimum value of equivalence ratio was observed to be 0.3134 for achieving the maximum gas conversion efficiency of the present gasifier configuration.

Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2015, Volume 10, Issue 2,   Pages 176-186 doi: 10.1007/s11465-014-0306-x

Abstract:

The present paper is to know how the work is carried out in the field of biomechanics of knee. Various model formulations are discussed and further classified into mathematical model, two-dimensional model and three-dimensional model. Knee geometry is a crucial part of human body movement, in which how various views of knee is shown in different planes and how the forces act on tibia and femur are studied. It leads to know the forces acting on the knee joint. Experimental studies of knee geometry and forces acting on knee shown by various researchers have been discussed, and comparisons of results are made. In addition, static and dynamic analysis of knee has been also discussed respectively to some extent.

Fundamental buckling of circular plates with elastically restrained edges and resting on concentric rigid ring support

Lokavarapu Bhaskara Rao, Chellapilla Kameswara Rao

Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2013, Volume 8, Issue 3,   Pages 291-297 doi: 10.1007/s11465-013-0255-9

Abstract:

This work presents the existence of buckling mode switching with respect to the radius of concentric rigid ring support. The buckling mode may not be axisymmetric as previously assumed. In general, the plate may buckle in an axisymmetric mode but when the radius of the ring support becomes small, the plate may buckle in an asymmetric mode. The optimum radius of the concentric rigid ring support for maximum buckling load is also determined. Introducing internal rigid ring support, when placed at an optimal position increases the elastic buckling load capacity by 149.39 percent. The numerical results obtained are in good agreement with the previously published data.

Frequencies of circular plate with concentric ring and elastic edge support

Lokavarapu Bhaskara RAO,Chellapilla Kameswara RAO

Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2014, Volume 9, Issue 2,   Pages 168-176 doi: 10.1007/s11465-014-0299-5

Abstract:

Exact solutions for the flexural vibrations of circular plates having elastic edge conditions along with rigid concentric ring support have been presented in this paper. Values of frequency parameter for the considered circular plate are computed for different sets of values of elastic rotational and translation restraints and the radius of internal rigid ring support. The results for the first three modes of plate vibrations are computed and are presented in tabular form. The effects of rotational and linear restraints and the radius of the rigid ring support on the vibration behavior of circular plates are studied over a wide range of non-dimensional parametric values. The values of the exact frequency parameter presented in this paper for varying values of restraint parameters and the radius of the rigid ring support can better serve in design and as benchmark solutions to validate the numerical methods obtained by using other methods of solution.

Sudden death due to arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy: Two case reports

CHEN Xinshan, ZHANG Yigu, RAO Guangxun, HUANG Guangzhao

Frontiers of Medicine 2007, Volume 1, Issue 3,   Pages 338-342 doi: 10.1007/s11684-007-0065-8

Abstract: Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) is a kind of primary myocardial disease characterized by the regional or global replacement of right ventricular myocardium by fatty and fibrolipomatous tissues. The ARVC, usually presenting with different clinical manifestations and pathological changes, were mainly seen in young men and is one of the main causes of sudden death in the young. Here two autopsied cases of Chinese men aged 30 and 23 years old who appeared healthy but died suddenly while at work are reported respectively. One of the victims had extensive and severe pathological changes in his heart involving the left ventricular wall as well as the ventricular septum and the right atrium. Not only was there a global fatty and fibrolipomatous tissue replacement of the right ventricular myocardia, but also mild sarcoplasmic coagulation in the myocardium and focal lymphocytic infiltration in the myocardial interstitium of the right ventricular wall. In addition, slight atherosclerosis of the coronary artery and intimal thickening of the sino-atrial node were observed. It is believed that there are no marked differences in the pathological changes of ARVC between Chinese patients and patients from western countries. The etiology and pathogenesis of ARVC could not be explained by a single cause or factor and they are probably related to various congenital and acquired causes or factors.

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2013, Volume 7, Issue 1,   Pages 77-84 doi: 10.1007/s11783-012-0466-z

Abstract: 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (2,4,6-TCP) is a widespread probable human carcinogen and has been proven to have genotoxicity in assays. However, little genotoxicity information and no micronuclei induction data for 2,4,6-TCP is available from tests, especially for sex-specific differences. Following a preliminary test, a piscine peripheral erythrocyte micronucleus assay was conducted on medaka ( ) after a 28-day exposure to 2,4,6-TCP. In the present study, the mean micronuclei (MNC) frequencies of all of the groups increased in a dose-dependent manner, which indicated the potential genotoxicity of 2,4,6-TCP. Moreover, males were found to be more susceptible compared with females after a 28-day exposure to 2,4,6-TCP in all of the dosed groups above 10 μg·L . This is the first report on the potential of micronuclei induction and a sex-susceptible effect in the peripheral erythrocytes of mature fish after 2,4,6-TCP exposure.
